Let us praise to Allah SWT who has been bestowed taufiq, guidance, and hidayah of Him to us, so that we can come together in a state of a fit and healthy condition. Shalawat and greeting are always extended to the great Prophet Muhammad SAW, which we look forward for his intercession later in the end of the world.
God has ordained and created a creature who is so loving who sincerely works hard to bring us together in the womb up to 9 months in the birth and cares of us since we opened the eyes to see the world, she is what we usually call as ‘Mother’. The prayers and greetings will always be sent to the great Prophet Muhammad SAW that had set an example of how to behave for a son to his mother.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Behind the noble of a mother, sometimes there are some people who do not understand the value of a mother. Haven’t we ever heard the story of Malin Kundang who was condemned by her mother into stone because of his disobedience to his own mother? There are many important lessons we can take from this story that we need to serve and obey our mother.
Although in modern times there is no child who is cursed into stone as well as in Malin Kundang story, but the nature of the iniquity of Malin Kundang story is still inherited by some children in this terbaru abad. When we see and observe the environment around us, there are still some children who speak and act rude, doing bad behavior, even disobey their own mother who gives birth to us to this world.
Our Prophet Muhammad SAW gave orders for us to devote to the mother 3 times more than the father. This could be used as an evidence of how Islam puts mothers in a privileged spot. Even in a haadist mentioned:
الجنة تحت أقدام الأمهات
Which means: Paradise is under mother’s feet.
Surely the hadith puts mother in a high position with the reason. You could say the mother is a bridge connecting the supernatural with this mortal world. It is because everyone must pass through a mother to come in this world. Therefore, we as a child are obligated to be filial to parents, especially mothers. So we must pray when she is alive and when she has died. Even a tabiah said that: “Those who pray for his parents five times in a day and night, then he has to fulfill the obligation of the parents”. So, indeed, we should be as a form of filial piety and to be diligent to pray for parents, especially mothers after fard prayers are finished.

Mothers’ existence has been noted by Islam by giving their rights. Mothers also have an obligation to educate their children by instilling the values of goodness and glory and keep them away from humility. Mothers also have to accustom theie children to obey Allah by doing His command and staying away from His ban.
Therefore, there are some of our obligations, as children, to parents:
1. Obey our parents.
2. Pray for our parents.
3. Keep our words to speak good and gently
4. Do good to our parents
Ladies and gentlemen,
Seeing how high the position of a mother and how the struggle of a mother when educating their children are not possibly equal to even be rewarded with anything in this world and, in fact, will never be rewarded until whenever. So, we, as children, never ever have a reason to disobey our parents with any reason. Even when a mother is mean and arbitrary, a child still may not be replying to the evils committed by the mother.
So, let us together pray for our parents, especially the mother, such as what is written in Surah Nuh: verse 28.
The verse means: “O my Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and those who enter my house as a believer and the believing men and the believing women. Do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but destruction!” (Q.S Noah, 71:28).
