The Structure of the Descriptive Text

A descriptive text is a text which describes a particular person, place, or item. It consists of:

  • Identification: identifies the person, place or item to be described.
  • Description: describes parts, qualities, and characteristics.
The language features of a descriptive text are:
– use mostly simple present tense, such as The cable car has bright colors, ……, ……, the cable car’s walls are made of clear, thick glass.
– use many noun phrases (adjective + noun) to make an interesting, lively description, such as bright colors, clearer view, thick glass.
