Telling About Time

When you tell about time, you usually mention the hour and minutes. To show the minutes, you can use the words ‘past’ and ‘to’.

  • 10.00 ➞ ten o’clock
  • 10.15 ➞ a quarter past ten
  • 10.30 ➞ half past ten
  • 10.45 ➞ a quarter to eleven
  • 11.05 ➞ five past eleven
  • 12.25 ➞ twenty-five past twelve
  • 1:50 ➞ ten minutes to two
Note:
There are twenty-four hours in a day.

  • We use a.m to show time from 12:01 at midnight until 12:00 at noon.
  • We use p.m to show time from 12:01 at noon until 12:00 at midnight.
