What does mean body language?

Body language meliputi :


1.    Posture

According to the advance learner’s dictionary (1999:901). Posture is defined as the way in which a person holds herself or himself when standing, walking, or sitting (Dale and Wolf (2000:19)). Suggest that your posture tells how you feel about yourself. it can say i am timid and afraid of my own shadow.

Dale and Wolf (2000:20) suggest that when  giving a speech, there are five ways radiate confidens and strange of charactare even before you open your mouth. These five ways involving posture are :

1.    Keep your spire straight and rotate your shoulder back.

2.    Keep your head arrect.

3.    Keep your hands at your side with your fingers open.

4.    Keep both feet flat on the floor and slightly apart.

5.    If you are using a lectern be careful not to berd over it or lear or it. Stand naturally and gently rest your hand on the side of the lectern.

2.    Movement

While speaking, do not hide your hands in your pocket and jingle your keys or lose change. Keep your hands at your side on the other hand do not stand frozen in one place for or entire speech. If you are nervous take two or three steps to the right,left, front, or back while speaking.

3.    Eyecontact

Dale and Wolf (2000:21) suggest that eyecontact various from culture to culture in some eastern culture  women are expected to lower their eyes in communication situation. In other culture, it is a sign of respect to lower one is eyes when speaking to older people. In japan audiences look down in order to show respect for a speaker. The speaker may acknowledge the audience’s humanity by looking down as well.

Dale and Wolf (2000:21) claim that in the USA making eyecontact with your audience is absoolutely necessary for becoming and effective communicator. Good eyecontect is taken to mean that you are open an honest.

4.    Facial Expretion

Dale and Wolf (2000:22) according to them is very greatly in different cultures. In  of speaker who smiles may convey confusion or embarrassment to his or her listeners and American speaker may purpose laugh to express irony or humor. Speaker in united sats use variety of facial expression to help maintain the listeners interest in their message and to appear relax and in control.

5.    Appearance

if you listeners have on suit and dresses it is important for you  to dress well as the audiences will be looking up to you. Wear your best suit or dress and do not wear jewelry that might glitter or jingle when you move or gesture. This might divert attention of your audience from your speech. Remember to dress well and comfortable because the audience is going to make first impression of you, Avoid colors that are bright.
