Grammar : There is/There are

‘There’ is and ‘there are’ are used to say that a person or an object exists. Patterns are:

There is + Singular noun

Examples:
(+)There is a sofa in the living room.
(-) There is not a sofa in living room.
(?) Is there a sofa in the living room?

There are + plural noun

Examples:
(+) There are three newspapers on the table.
(-)  There are not three newspapers on the table.
(?) Are there three newspapers on the table?
